Gulfstream G-450 Pilot Staffing

We staff Gulfstream G-450 crew for corporate flight departments and Part 135 operators across the country, on contract and on direct hire. The pool on this airframe is narrower than the Gulfstream label suggests, mostly because of where the FAA drew the line between the G-IV and the G-V.

The Airplane is a G-IV. The type rating is a G-V.

The G-450 is a G-IVX: a G-IV airframe with the PlaneView flight deck, Tay 611-8C engines with FADEC, and flight control boost ratios modified to handle like a G-V. The FAA rated it with the airplanes it flies like rather than the airplane it descends from. It sits under the G-V type rating alongside the G-350, the G-V, and the G-VSP models (G-500 and G-550), while the G-IV, G-IVSP, G-300, and G-400 sit under a separate G-IV rating.

Two things follow, and both cost operators time. A captain with 4,000 hours in a G-IVSP is not typed for your G-450, and the resume rarely makes that obvious. Because currency is common across the entire G-V rating, a pilot can be legal and current on paper having flown nothing but a G-550 for the last three years. Legal is not the same as ready for your right seat on a short runway with the owner aboard.

What We Verify Past the Rating

We confirm time in the G- IVX specifically, not time credited from a G-V or a G-550, along with the date and location of last recurrent and which airframe that training was conducted in. HUD and EVS are standard on the 450, so we confirm the pilot has been trained on both rather than assuming it came with the type.

Then the mission. The G-450 is a 4,350 nautical mile airplane. It crosses the Atlantic and it does not do what a G-550 does nonstop, so the crew you want has planned real tech stops, worked HF and oceanic procedures, and handled permits in the regions you fly. The last check is the one that ends most placements: whether the candidate clears the minimums written into your insurance policy rather than a generic industry number.

One more thing comes up on this fleet. Production ended in 2018, the aircraft trade actively, and a fair number have moved onto charter certificates. If your G-450 is on a Part 135 certificate, indoctrination and the required checks sit between a qualified pilot and a revenue leg, which is an argument for building the bench early.

Contract G-450 Crew, On Our W-2

Every contract pilot we place is an IFCC W-2 employee. Background screening, drug and alcohol testing, FAA records and currency verification, workers' compensation, global medical and repatriation coverage, and state employment compliance are handled before anyone reaches the aircraft. There is no 1099 arrangement, so misclassification exposure never lands on your operation.

Direct Hire for An Open G-450 Seat

When the seat is permanently open, we are able to recruit from a passive candidate database of aviation professionals who are not on job boards and not answering postings. Background screening, FAA records verification, reference checks, and credentials review are complete before you meet anyone, and the hire joins your payroll. Plan on about 90 days, nearly all of it sourcing.

Gulfstream G-450 Staffing FAQ's

What type rating does a Gulfstream G-450 pilot need?

The FAA G-V type rating. The G-450 is designated G-IVX and shares that rating with the G-350, the G-V, and the G-VSP models, the G-500 and G-550. Because one rating covers several airplanes and currency is common across all of them, holding it does not establish G-450 experience by itself.

Does a G-IV or G-IVSP pilot qualify to fly a G-450?

No. The G-IV, G-IVSP, G-300, and G-400 fall under the separate G-IV type rating, and the FAA does not treat the G-IVX as a variant of the G-IV for type rating purposes. This is the most common mistake we see on Gulfstream resumes, because the G-450 is a G-IV airframe underneath the PlaneView flight deck.

How quickly can you place a Gulfstream G-450 pilot?

For contract crew, we work from a current view of who is typed and available on this type, and we have filled same-day requests with less than eight hours notice. For direct hire, plan on about 90 days from the start of the search.

What is the difference between contract and direct hire for a G-450?

Contract crew work as IFCC W-2 employees for a defined trip or period, and we carry payroll, screening, insurance, and compliance. Direct hire is permanent placement on your payroll, where we source and fully vet the candidate before presenting them. Contract covers gaps, peak season, training footprints, and headcount freezes. Direct hire fills a seat that is permanently open.

Are your G-450 contract pilots 1099 contractors?

No. Every contract crew member we place is our W-2 employee and we are the employer of record, which keeps misclassification exposure off your operation.

Can you staff a cabin attendant on the same trip?

Yes. We place corporate cabin attendants on the same W-2 terms as pilots, screened and insured before the trip, so crew and cabin come through one relationship.
